Program Description: SC Steps to STEM is a program desgined to increase the number of students pursuing and receiving baccalaureate degress in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields at the University of South Carolina (USC). The goals of this program are to (a) increase the number of students, particulary underrepresented students (low income, rural, minority, and female), who transfer from a local 2 year institute majoring in STEM programs at USC by 30% per year, (b) to encourage and assist students at technical colleges and USC branch campuses in transferring to the main campus and completing a degree in a STEM field through the creation of a bridge program that provides additional preparation and support for transferring students, and (c) to increase the overall STEM enrollment and graduation rate at USC by 10% per year.
